On October 8, Dr. Steven Reid will discuss, “Patenting Solid Forms of Pharmaceuticals.” This presentation will focus on the role of crystalline and amorphous forms of pharmaceuticals in the life cycle of drugs, placing particular emphasis on patentability challenges and strategies.  In view of the global importance of drug patents, we will touch upon challenges in procuring solid forms patents in representative foreign jurisdictions.
 
Speaker Steven Reid's practice at SLW entails the procurement of patents and related counseling in the chemical arts, particularly in the area of small molecules and pharmaceuticals. He also conducts and advises clients on intellectual property due diligence investigations.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Reid served as a patent examiner in the chemical and pharmaceutical arts for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He also spent time as a postdoctoral research associate in the departments of chemistry at Tulane and Texas A&M Universities. He earned a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School in 2006, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998.
